Restoration family,
We are about to embark on a new liturgical year together with the season of Advent. It is fitting that we enter into the year in darkness, mystery, and anticipation. It is the sacred vocation of the church to stand in the midst of a dark world, heralding a great mystery, eagerly anticipating the return of our king.
We are fond of Fleming Rutledge’s quote: “Advent is not for the faint of heart.” It is not a passive waiting and it is not sentimental. It’s a prophetic stance that clings to God’s promise to bruise the head of the serpent. And even as the Holy Family together waited for the coming of the Christ child, we too wait together.
There’s no right way to ‘do Advent’. Below are a diverse array of resources you can use to provide direction and bring focus throughout the season. But as you discern what might be beneficial, please consider moving through one of these (or some other resource) together with a friend, your table group, your spouse or some other small group of disciples.
Let us band together, in quiet confidence, that our king is coming and his kingdom is here.
Yours in Christ,
Aaron
