Compline Prayer for Shalom

Dear Restoration,

Once again, local tragedy tears open deep wounds in our society. A young man’s life is snuffed out, riots ensure, and people plead for justice. We’re angry, saddened, and afraid. We long for shalom in our own hearts and cities.

As a way of lamenting our sorrows, Molly and I will be hosting a short Compline prayer service tonight at 8:30pm.

Oftentimes we wonder what we can do in times like this. First and foremost, we come before our Risen King in prayer. He bears our grief and carries our sorrow. Prayer is not a failure of action, for ultimately, we do not fight against flesh and blood, but against the rulers and principalities of the air. How do events like these not give witness to the realities of evil?

I also encourage you to reach out to a neighbor, friend from church, or co-worker. Ask those close to you how you might pray for them, listen to their sorrows, and be present. One way we can love our neighbors is simply by being with them in tumultuous times.

So again, please join us in prayer.

In Christ,
Father Rick
