Our New Diocese

Restoration recently transferred from one diocese into another, and so we’d like to invite you to learn more about our new diocese and to pray for this next chapter together.

But first, what is a diocese?

A diocese is a group of churches led by a bishop. Within the ACNA, there are about 30 dioceses. Most dioceses are geographically organized. Several others are non-geographic; their relationships are based on common affinities, common histories, or missional emphases.

The purpose of a diocese is to equip local congregations for the mission of the Church. This is done by maintaining doctrinal fidelity, vetting and ordaining new clergy, supporting existing clergy with pastoral care and discipline, confirming the faith of youth and adults, and providing congregations with ministry resources (policies, guidelines, and best practices).

We have been a part of the Upper Midwest Diocese (UMD). We are grateful for many good things we’ve received from UMD, but this summer, we came to the conclusion that this is not the best place for our congregation. The rationale, canonical procedure, and process was explained in detail at parish information meetings. After much prayer, discussion, and discernment, we now have a home in the Diocese of the Rocky Mountains (DRM).

Diocese of the Rocky Mountains

DRM is a non-geographic diocese whose beliefs and ethos are congruent with our own. They are actively planting churches and provide an abundance of support for local congregations. We are excited to make our home under this diocese and encourage you to explore the following resources.

  • DRM’s Website
You’ll find a list of diocesan leadership, theological resources, policies/guidelines, and a description of their story, mission, and vision.

  • Bishop Ken’s Synod Message
In this encouraging video from DRM’s annual gathering, Bp. Ken reflects on the past ten years of the diocese. You’ll hear more about the diocese’s values, culture, and mission.

  • Powered by Church Planting
This article on Anglican Compass is about the four dioceses in the ACNA who are experiencing growth, one of which is DRM. Numbers obviously aren’t everything, but they do provide a bit of insight into general trends of the ACNA and highlight the missional focus of DRM.

We look forward to this next chapter of ministry together. May Restoration be a place where the lost find a home, the broken are healed, faith is matured, and the presence of Christ is made known!
