Dear Restoration,
Summer is here! The three feasts of Ascension, Pentecost, and Trinity are now behind us, which means we are entering Ordinary Time. During this six-month season, we anticipate the work of God’s Spirit in the day-to-day of our lives. If you’re new to the Church Calendar, you might want to pick up A Theology of the Ordinary, by Julie Canlis, a theologian in our diocese, for rich reflection and thinking on the joys of the ordinary.
As we enter this season, I have a few joys to share, and a request:
Deacon Aaron Van Luven’s title will be changing to Pastor of Youth and Pastoral Care. This acknowledges the hard work Aaron dedicates to our growing Youth Ministry and designates him as our pastoral lead for hospital visits, the prayer team, and more. To be clear, the whole staff (including me!) are eager to walk alongside you as you follow Jesus; we will continue to hold regular office hours. But Aaron will be set apart to think deeply about how pastoral care is provided at our church size.
In light of this, we are creating a new Formation Team to organize and oversee Adult Discipleship efforts in our parish. I will lead this team, which will include Deacon Aaron and Deacon Ashley. In the upcoming ministry year, we are excited to offer a second round of Living the Gospel, Prayer Retreats, and more. Stay tuned!
We will continue with three services this summer, as our average Sunday attendance regularly exceeds 500 people. Thanks be to God! God is graciously drawing people to Restoration.
On that note, you may have noticed that the second and third services have been at capacity, while the first service has been about 40% full. Our building can accommodate the entire congregation, but only if a significant number of people attend the first service. If your schedule allows, please consider attending the 8:00 service this summer. Every person who moves from the other two services creates space for a newcomer.
May you be blessed by Christ throughout this Ordinary Season!
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Rick
