The Great Easter Vigil is coming soon (Saturday, Apr 19) and is our biggest service of the year. It is a 2.5-hour full immersion into the Gospel of Jesus. Anglicans like to say that we are a “three streams” movement: fully sacramental, full of the Scriptures, and full of the Spirit —and the Great Easter Vigil is when all three streams are on full blast. You should come. Invite your friends.
But, there is a problem. For the past two years, we have not been able to fit everyone into our sanctuary. Last year, we were more than 100 beyond capacity. Ew. The staff had brainstormed turning Vigil into a ticketed event or creating overflow seating in the Fellowship Hall, but neither of these solutions felt good.
So, to have space for everyone to come, we will move Vigil offsite this year to Minnehaha Academy’s beautiful North Campus Auditorium. This is going to be great. There will be a seat for everyone who wants to come.
The church planter in me is also very excited to exercise our Setup-Teardown muscles. We’ll get to think more creatively and invite more people. This reminds us that our community is not defined by our building but rather by the Spirit of God at work among us. We are the Body of Christ proclaiming the Good News of his Kingdom ‘always and everywhere.’
Would you be willing to join a Vigil Setup or Teardown team? Setup will work that Saturday morning, and Teardown will happen as soon as the service ends. If you’ve served on this type of team in other contexts, you know how fun and sacred it is to physically assemble a worship space for the People of God.
