Ordinary Time and Worship Journals

Dear families,

At our Fall Children's Ministry kickoff, we were excited to introduce a new initiative: Worship Journals for kids! This has been a project that the CLT has had fun collaborating on, and we are excited to share more of our heart behind them.

During a season in which Sundays look different than the norm, we wanted to create materials to help children engage on Sunday mornings and to feel that they are an integral part of our time together. Our hope is that these journals will help children "check-in" to the service, to engage in new and fun ways, and to learn more about the beautiful liturgy of Sunday mornings. Whether it be the tracing portions of preschoolers, the fill-in-the-blank activities, the words for the Word Searches, or the themes of the mazes, our goal was to center everything on the truth of Scripture and key aspects of the liturgy they are participating in - either at home or in person.

The journal your child will be receiving has been specifically designed for the current season of the liturgical year: Ordinary Time. We have titled this page “Rise Up and Grow,” for this is a meaningful time of the year in which, as Christians, we are encouraged and challenged to grow in Christ. Green, the color of Ordinary Time, symbolizes this life and growth that we are experiencing. To aid in teaching your children about Ordinary Time, there is a short explanation at the beginning of the journal adapted for each of the three classes. If you haven’t already, we would encourage you to take some time to read through it with your children; and on the adjacent page, there is a liturgical calendar, intentionally left white so that they can color it in themselves.

As conveyed in the opening note to your children in the Worship Journals, our hope is that through this endeavor, they would feel loved and that they are a part of God's family as they grow in Christ. Your children are an important part of the body of Christ, and their presence on Sunday mornings is a beautiful picture of the abundant life there is in Him. We love sharing Sunday mornings with them, and we hope these journals enrich their experience we worship together.

And be on the lookout for our purple Advent Worship Journals coming soon!
